A number of faculty at CMU have developed and deployed online courses through the Open Learning Initative. Professor Scheines and many others have developed a course in Causal and Statistical Reasoning that involves a virtual lab, and which has been used at over 40 institutions by several thousand students. He will discuss where the computer is helpful in teaching and where it is not. He will also discuss the OLI environment and project.
